Michael O'Reilly's legal team have officially lodged an appeal against the boxer's proposed suspension due to a failed drug test as of midday today Irish time.
The formal process will now begin.
The next step is that an independent disciplinary panel will convene in Dublin, with Michael O'Reilly giving evidence from Rio via Skype.
The 23-year-old from the Portlaoise Boxing Club has been provisionally suspended from the Games after testing positive for a banned substance.
