Conor McGregor looks set to get the opportunity to claim the UFC lightweight title amid reports that he will face reigning champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 in March.
McGregor already holds the UFC featherweight title following his 13-second knockout victory over Jose Aldo in December and has been vocal in his desire to claim two belts at different weight divisions.
Yesterday UFC president Dana White signalled that he would be open to allowing McGregor to hold two titles at the same time and reports now indicate that his next fight will indeed be for that lightweight title.
In what would be one of the biggest UFC shows to date, McGregor is understood to be in line to face dos Anjos in Las Vegas on 5 March.
Should McGregor triumph in that encounter, his next fight after that would be the defence on his featherweight crown, and White has indicated that he would be expected to defend both titles twice a year if he held them.
The Irishman would headline the show with newly crowned women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm also on the card, making her first title defence against Miesha Tate.
BREAKING: Multiple sources confirm UFC will soon announce UFC 197 for March 5 in Vegas with Dos Anjos/McGregor and Holm/Tate.

I'd expect an official announcement on the UFC 197 bouts during this weekend's NFL playoff broadcasts on Fox, BTW.
