Harrington wins RTE award

Padraig Harrington scooped the RTE/Hibernian Sports Personality of the Year at a banquet at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin last night. The Dublin golfer emerged as the winner from a shortlist of 11 sports stars, which included soccer's Robbie Keane and Damien Duff and record-winning jump jockey Tony McCoy. Harrington was a member of Europe's Ryder Cup winning team at The Belfry in September and finished second in the European Order of Merit.

The team of the year went to Armagh's All-Ireland winning senior football team, while the Hall of Fame award went to former Kerry senior footballer Mick O'Connell.
