Padraig Harrington put himself back into contention at the PGA Championship after posting an impressive five-under 65 at Baltusrol.
One of the early starters at the New Jersey course, Harrington began his day on one over par but has now moved into the top ten following his impressive round.
A flawless 18 holes from the three-time major winner included back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes, which saw Harrington post a two-under 32 for the front nine.
"It’s a nice position. I see the storms are starting to brew up here, a bit of wind..."
The Dubliner followed that with two more birdies on the 12th and 14th before finishing off with his fifth birdie of the day on the par-five 18th hole.
And speaking to RTE Sport following his round, Harrington said: “I played average today, but I scored well. I got the most out of it.
“I hit a couple of the right shots at the right time when I had opportunities and my average shots didn’t get me in any trouble. So I did a good job of scoring.”
“I played really well the first day and putted tentatively, I was very tentative the second day but putted better and today – even though I didn’t play great – I was more relaxed about things, tee to green and putted very nicely.”
The 44-year-old admitted he was in a nice position ahead of the final round, on the fringes of contention and with hopes of possible bad weather affecting the leaders.
“It’s a nice position. I see the storms are starting to brew up here, a bit of wind... Yeah, so if the leaders stall up today that would be nice.”
And Harrington added that if “15 under wins I ain’t winning” but has a chance because “if seven or eight or a nine wins then you never know.”
The 44-year-old also complimented the Irish support he received through the round, with the GAA jerseys catching his eye.
He said: “I got to thank all the GAA jerseys. It’s amazing how many people come out wearing a GAA jersey around the world so you can always identify them on the golf course. Great support.”
