Graeme McDowell had a disappointing start to the RBS Canadian Open after shooting an opening-round 75 at Glen Abbey Golf Club.

The Portrush man already finds himself 11 shots off the pace after posting the three-over round and will need to shoot a low second round score just to make the cut at the Oakville event.

The 2010 US Open champion hit two double bogeys and two bogeys but did also manage three late birdies to finish the round in a tie for 138th going into the second day.

Argentinian Emiliano Grillo took a one-shot lead on the opening day with a fine eight-under 64.

Grillo's blemish-free round was a model of consistency with four birdies either side of the turn, although he has American duo Vaughn Taylor and Brian Haman tied in second place breathing down his neck.

Just behind them Steve Wheatcroft, Tyrone Van Aswegen, Ryan Ruffels and Erik Compton are locked on six under.

Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk and Jason Day are all four shots off the lead further back.
