Tipperary’s All-Ireland-winning medallist Paul Curran has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling
The Mullinahone man was among a number of players released from the Tipperary hurling squad by manager Eamon O’Shea for the championship campaign.
He said: “Having had the great honour of being a member of the Tipperary Senior hurling panel for the past 15 years, I have decided to call time on my inter-county hurling career.
“It was a huge privilege for me to wear the blue and gold and to represent my county.
“I want to wish Tipperary well for the future. I have great hopes for this team and have no doubt they will go on to bring many more honours to the county."
The 33-year-old started in his side's Allianz League semi-final defeat to Waterford, but is one of nine players to depart ahead of pre-championship preparations.
Curran won an All-Ireland medal in 2010 and is a two-time National Hurling League medallist. He also won four Munster senior championships, including as captain of the 2012 winning team.
It is believed O’Shea will reveal a 30-man panel in early June, ahead of the Munster SHC semi-final with Clare or Limerick on 21 June.
