Tipperary forward Noel McGrath is to undergo surgery for testicular cancer this coming Friday.
A statement from the Tipperary board wished McGrath well on behalf of the senior hurling squad, management and county board.
"All Tipperary supporters wish Noel well during this time and look forward to welcoming him back in the county colours in due course.
"We ask everyone to respect the privacy of Noel and his family at this time and in the coming weeks."
McGrath featured prominently in the Premier county's run to this season's Allianz League Division 1 semi-final.
The 24-year-old holds All-Ireland titles at minor, U-21 and senior level.
In other news concerning Eamon O'Shea's squad, Lar Corbett is to resume training on Wednesday evening, according to a report in The Star newspaper.
The 34-year-old has not featured for the Tipperary since last September's All-Ireland replay defeat against Kilkenny.
Corbett, the 2010 Hurler of the Year, won a county title with Thurles Sarsfields last season, but has been struggling with a knee injury.
