Wexford 3-18 Limerick 4-16
Substitute Sean O'Brien's late point gave visitors a one-point Allianz Hurling League Division 1B win over Wexford in an epic encounter at Wexford Park.
Wexford led 3-09 to 2-09 at half-time thanks to two goals from Liam Og McGovern and a three-pointer from Jack Guiney, with John Fitzgibbon and Shane Dowling finding the net for the Shannonsiders.
The hosts led by three points with five minutes to go, but David Breen's close-range goal brought Limerick level before O'Brien had the final say.
In a high-scoring first half, Wexford corner-forward McGovern struck for the first goal of the game in the seventh minute, giving his side a 1-01 to 0-03 lead.
An opportunistic goal from the impressive Fitzgibbon put the Limerick men back in front in the 14th minute, but a sparkling 16th-minute goal from Guiney, following superb approach work from Daithi Waters and Diarmuid O'Keeffe, edged the Model County in front again at 2-02 to 1-04.
A string of points and another superb goal from McGovern put the home side eight points clear in the 25th minute.
However, Limerick rallied again and thanks to Dowling's fortuitous goal from a free, which went all the way to the net from the 65-metre mark, TJ Ryan's side only trailed by three points at the interval.
The second half did not quite match the high-scoring exploits of the opening period, with defences improving.
Limerick's Richie McCarthy and Lee Chin of Wexford were particularly impressive in that regard, while Wexford were pegged back by Declan Hannon's 42nd-minute goal to make it 3-12 apiece.
A point from substitute Podge Doran had Wexford in front by four points with eight minutes to go but Limerick pressed hard, with substitute Sean Tobin pointing and in a frenetic attack.
The well-placed Breen then tapped into the net on the rebound after Wexford goalkeeper Mark Fanning had saved Seamus Hickey's initial shot from 30 metres.
The goal levelled this exciting contest for the third time before Guiney replied with a pointed free in the 68th minute.
However, Limerick produced the stronger finish as a long Dowling free squared things up and O'Brien's match-winning point sent Ryan's charges to the top of the table.
