Laois 1-11 Dublin 2-18
Dublin advanced to next Saturday's Bord na Mona Walsh Cup final against Galway following a 2-18 to 1-11 win over Laois at O'Moore Park.
Conal Keaney found the net in the seventh minute and with David Treacy in sublime form from placed balls, the visitors led 1-09 to 0-06 at half-time.
Laois shot 1-03 without reply, including a penalty goal from substitute Zane Keenan, but Eamon Dillon's 68th-minute major wrapped it up for the Croke Park-bound Dubs.
Today's game was overshadowed by the news that former Tipperary legend Tommy Dunne is stepping down from his role as Dublin senior hurling coach. Dunne, who was involved for the past two years, has decided to focus on work and study commitments.
Dublin manager Ger Cunningham started with just six of the side that beat Antrim last weekend - goalkeeper Gary Maguire, Paul and Mark Schutte, Michael Carton, Peter Kelly and David Treacy.
For Laois there was great confidence heading into this encounter, after beating Wexford for the first time in four years at senior level.
However, Dublin moved 0-04 to 0-00 ahead after six minutes, with Treacy, Keaney, Niall McMorrow and Cian McBride on target. Neil Foyle opened the Laois account moments later, but scores were hard to come by for the midlanders.
Dublin broke through for the opening goal when Treacy fed the onrushing Keaney to fire home and make it 1-04 to 0-01. Laois hit back with pointed frees from Matthew Whelan and Stephen Maher, but Dublin hit five of the next six points to open up a 1-09 to 0-04 advantage.
Treacy's free-taking was excellent and the Cuala clubman missed just one over the 70 minutes. The O'Moore men reduced the arrears with scores from John Purcell and Maher before the break.
The introduction of Zane Keenan and James Walsh at half-time further boosted Laois' comeback hopes, but only after a powerful opening spell from Dublin on the restart.
Cunningham's charges notched five unanswered points, with three more from Treacy. However, as they had done against Antrim, the Dubs hit a lull and Laois capitalised.
Seamus Plunkett's side bagged 1-03 in a productive ten-minute spell, with their goal coming from a Keenan penalty after Carton picked up a yellow card for a foul on Neil Foyle. Carton saw red soon after following another entanglement with Foyle.
A pointed free from Keenan cut the gap to four points in the 57th minute, but Laois failed score for the remainder of the contest. Dublin had more in reserve, rattling off 1-03 without reply (including Dillon's late goal), as they set up a Croke Park decider against Galway next Saturday (throw-in 5pm), which will take place before the Dublin v Donegal Allianz Football League clash.
