Cork boss Denis Walsh has confirmed that former All-Star Joe Deane has retired from inter-county hurling.

The Killeagh stalwart claimed six All-Ireland medals at minor, under-21 and senior level (1999, 2004 and 2005).

‘Joe is retired, definitely,’ Walsh told the Irish Examiner after Cork’s defeat by Waterford in the Allianz NHL on Sunday.

‘I saw him play two club matches in the last week and he was unbelievable. He’s been a brilliant player, one of the top players of all time.’
