Longford star Paul Barden has called time on his inter-county career.

In an interview with the Longford Leader newspaper, the 34-year-old forward said he had told manager Jack Sheedy that he would play on for another year but has since changed his mind.

Barden, who has been a member of the panel since 1999, represented Ireland in the 2002 and 2006 International Rules series.

Longford opened their Division 4 league campaign with a draw against Leitrim at the weekend and meet Antrim next Sunday.

They are due to play Offaly in the first round of the Leinster Championship in the summer.
