Dublin centre-back Ronan Fallon is making a desperate effort to regain fitness before the Leinster SHC clash with Antrim at Croke Park on 7 June.

The St Vincent’s clubman broke a metatarsal in his left foot during the narrow league defeat by Kilkenny at Nowlan Park on 19 April.

He has spent an hour a day in an oxygen chamber for the past fortnight, but is now considering other methods to expedite his recovery.

Fallon is planning to have a carbon footplate inserted into his boot to alleviate some of the pressure on the affected foot.

'Obviously after the oxygen chamber treatment I was hoping that the bones would have knitted together, but unfortunately that didn’t prove to be the case,' he told the Irish Examiner.

'The sports surgeon has now decided that the best thing for me is to have a carbon footplate fitted into the football boot on my left foot.

'At the moment, I can walk without any problem, but I can’t do any jogging because it’s too uncomfortable. So the idea of the carbon footplate is it takes a good bit of pressure off your foot.

'But I won’t be able to try it out until the weekend, because the carbon footplate is not available in Dublin, and has to be ordered from Cork, and brought up from there.'
