Legendary Kilkenny handballer Michael 'Ducksie' Walsh has died at the age of 50.

The Kilkenny man died this afternoon in hospital surrounded by family and friends after a short illness. 

During a star-studded career, Walsh won 16 All-Ireland 60x30 senior singles titles and seven All-Ireland 40x20 senior singles titles and in total amassed 38 senior wins.

Up to very recently, Walsh was still competing and in March reached the All Ireland Masters A Singles final.

GAA Handball National Manager John Kelly described him as “one in a million, a tremendous competitor, a sportsman par excellence and an iconic figure whose loss has left the entire handball community numb with grief.”
