Dublin manager Jim Gavin has confirmed that James McCarthy is fit to start Saturday’s All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Donegal.

McCarthy has been sidelined since suffering thigh and knee problems in training ahead of the Leinster final against Westmeath last month.

And despite reports claiming the 2014 All Star would miss the quarter-final having been sidelined for six weeks, Gavin told the Irish Times that the Ballymun Kickhams man is ready for the Croke Park showdown.

Gavin said: “James is back on the training field and available for selection. Mentally he is a very strong guy. He got a knock to the quad and the knee, the quad is the big one.

“He is an extra bit ahead in his goals so we are just delighted to have him back on grass last week, which is great news.”
