The Dublin senior hurlers have been hit by a double blow ahead of the start of the new Championship with the news that Ross O'Carroll has opted out of the panel while Niall McMorrow needs to undergo surgery.

O'Carroll confirmed that he would not be part of the senior hurling panel this year as he instead decided to focus on his club football with Kilmacud Crokes.

Dublin manager Ger Cunningham told GAA.ie: "[O’Carroll] wants to concentrate on club football. He’s a staunch clubman and they have a game coming up in a couple of weeks."

McMorrow meanwhile will be out of action for up to two months as he is do to undergo surgery on his thumb to correct a ligament injury.

Dublin get their Leinster championship campaign under way when they take on Galway at Croke Park on 31 May.
