Sligo cyclist Mark Scanlon has announced his retirement from the professional sport.
However he insists that contrary to newspaper reports today his main reason for retiring is not because of the prevalence of doping in professional cycling.
The former world junior champion who competed in the Tour de France in 2004, said he had other reasons for retiring including a preference to live in Sligo where he has business interests.
Scanlon has been staunchly anti-doping throughout his career and said: 'When you see donkeys preforming like racehorses and knowing they're drugged you realise it's all a waste of time.'
However, he also insisted that there were other factors behind his decision to quit.
