The Bray BC fighter had a 3-0 win in the 69kg category over Poland's Tomasz Kot, 30-27 29-28 29-28.
The Wexford welterweight will now meet Bogdan Shelestyuk of Ukraine, who received a bye in the first round.
Earlier, Sean McComb has lost his opening-round bout.
The Holy Trinity BC Lightweight was beaten in the 60kg category by Pavlo Ischenko of the Ukraine on a unanimous 3-0 (29-27, 29-28, 29-29) decision.
