Team Montenotte Hotel fought off DCU Mercy to win 72-69 and secure the 2016 Women’s Premier League title. In doing so, the Glanmire club moved to the top of the all-time list with seven wins.

Mercy made a move in the third quarter with strong inside play from Aoife McDermott but Glanmire’s swarming defence took hold down the stretch.

“It’s game like that that you want to win,” said captain Aine McKenna. “We were six points down and we came back to win by three. It’s unreal.”

“It wasn’t a day for stars, it was a day for dogged defence, hard work and a great team effort,” said Coach Mark Scannell.

C&S UCC Demons claimed their fourth successive Champions Trophy to round out the Men’s Premier League season with an 82-77 win over PyrobelKillester.

It was a 19-point swing in the middle quarters as the league champions came from eight points down to take control through Kyle Hosford and Lehmon Colbert.

Colin O’Reilly was pleased with two trophies out of three at the end of a tough campaign, saying: “It’s been a very long season but we always had two or three guys who had the energy to keep pushing the tempo.”

NUIG Mystics’ 79-61 win over a doughty Fr Mathews earned them a first ever Women’s Division One playoff title.

It was an historic year for the Galway side whose first place in the regular season saw them promoted, while the Senior Women’s National Cup win ensured a clean sweep.

KUBS prevented a treble of Men’s Division One trophies by Maree as they claimed the League Cup with an 89-79 win at the Watershed, Kilkenny.

The Dublin side had finished runners’ up in their maiden Division One campaign but a solid weekend at the league finals game them their first trophy.
