Day three of the 2011 Special Olympics in Athens has provided Team Ireland with their first gold medals of the games.
Offaly's John Michael Gannon won on the double in gymnastics, taking the gold medal in the horizontal bar and a silver for his performance on the parallel bars at the Hellinikon Olympic Indoor Hall.
Alan Quinlan was also a gymnastics medal winner, as the Limerick man took a silver medal in the male rings event.
In swimming, Templeogue's Mary Gavin, who had already claimed a silver medal in the 100 metre back-crawl, continued her fine form in the pool, winning gold in her 100-metre freestyle race.
Gavin will next compete in the 4 x 25m freestyle relay.
Lorraine O'Hallrahan of Kildare, matched Gavin’s feat, winning a gold medal of her own, also in the 100-metre freestyle.
Away from the pool, Down’s Stephen Yetman won Ireland’s first equestrian medal of the games, as he took the bronze Dressage medal.
