Badminton starlet Chloe Magee has earned a place at the Olympics in Beijing this summer.

Magee won the coveted spot as a result of her world singles ranking of 65 and her ranking of 25 in Europe.

The 19-year-old from Raphoe, Co Donegal is a full-time professional and plays mostly in Sweden.

Badminton Ireland will now ask the Olympic Council of Ireland to formally confirm her selection on the Irish team for Beijing.

Ireland will also be represented in the Chinese capital by Scott Evans under the direction of Olympic Badminton team manager Donal O'Halloran.

Pat Hickey, President of the Olympic Council of Ireland, offered his congratulations to Magee.

He said: 'The support of her family, the people of Donegal and her federation has been exceptional and we in the OCI are very pleased to see such support fully justified through the gaining of a place on our Olympic team.'
