Galway United manager Tony Cousins is hoping the Tribesmen can make a significant impact in the eircom League of Ireland Premier Division.

A capacity Terryland Park crowd will watch Friday night's Connacht derby between Galway and Sligo Rovers.

Cousins is optimistic about his teams prospects. 'It is important that we make a good, positive start to the season.  There should be a full house in Terryland and there is great excitement,' he said.

'The players have worked really hard, we have played six friendlies and our recent training trip to Spain went very well,' added the well-regarded Dubliner.

Things are not so rosy for the Sligo Rovers, however, with reports today suggesting that manager Rob McDonald is on the verge of leaving the Showgrounds club.

Sligo Rovers are refusing to comment and are not expected to issue a statement on the matter until tomorrow.
