Newcastle offer to stage AC Milan v Celtic
Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:36Celtic could face a relatively short trip to Newcastle for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash against AC Milan.
Newcastle have offered to stage the match, which is likely to be moved away from the San Siro after the stadium was closed to supporters today for an indefinite period.
There remains the option of playing the match behind closed doors at home, but Milan confirmed they have considered approaches from Newcastle and Geneva to host the 'home' leg, which is scheduled for 7 March.
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has criticised the decision to close the San Siro.
'We have done everything we could do,' Galliani told the official club website.
'It's obvious we want to play at the San Siro with open doors and as far as the Champions League is concerned, yesterday I spoke to (UEFA president Michel) Platini and we are free to play at home, maybe behind closed doors, or away (from home).
'We have done everything the law has asked us to do and have no reason to feel bad.'
