Defending Australian Open champion Amelie Mauresmo crashed out of the Medibank International in Sydney after suffering a 7-5 6-0 quarter-final defeat by Jelena Jankovic.

Jankovic, who had already disposed of Martina Hingis and Samantha Stosur in previous rounds, extended her winning streak to eight matches.

Earlier, world number five Kim Clijsters cruised past Shahar Peer 6-2 6-1 as the former US Open champion continued her recent run of form which saw the 23-year-old win the Watsons Water Challenge exhibition event last week.

China's Na Li booked her place in the last four with a 7-5 6-1 victory over Katarina Srebotnik.
