Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld set up the dream final at the Ladbrokes.com World Championship in Purfleet.

The two best players on the planet both sparkled in their semi-finals, each recording a 6-0 whitewash against dangerous opponents who had been on top form previously.

Van Barneveld took only an hour to win 6-0 against Andy Jenkins, which meant he could sit back and watch Taylor try to beat Andy 'The Hammer' Hamilton.

And the 13-time world champion responded to the challenge as he registered a three-dart average of 106 in completely demolishing one of the rising stars of the sport.

Although Hamilton has become renowned for his heavy scoring, 'The Power' never had a moment's anxiety as he coasted into his 14th consecutive Professional Darts Corporation world final.

'We are both there now and I think we've both worked very hard this week,' said the 46-year-old from Stoke.

'I think it will be a cracking final. You can tell by the atmosphere - everyone is waiting for it.'

It was also remarkably easy for 'Barney', for whom the only dropped sets in his five matches in the tournament have been the first three of his second-round clash with Colin Lloyd.

Jenkins had impressed with his resolution when coming through close tussles with Adrian Lewis and Colin Osborne but this time the 35-year-old from Hampshire was never at the races.

'Rocky' had a chance to take the third set but his finishing, the most impressive part of his game in the two previous rounds, was off-key whereas Van Barneveld proved crisp on the checkouts.

'Maybe Andy was affected by having had to play on each of the last four days,' said four-time Lakeside world champion Van Barneveld, who only joined the Professional Darts Corporation in February.

'I played my second round match before Christmas and then had four days off, so maybe the schedule was too much for him.

'But I hit him with a lot of power, trebles all over the place, and only one dart at the doubles for most of the first four sets. I think after that point I had got into his head.

'I like to play against fast throwers like Andy, which allows me to get into my rhythm and go bang, bang.'

Van Barneveld had made no secret of the fact the reason for his switch from the British Darts Organisation was to test himself against Taylor, and now he has the perfect opportunity to do so.

'I'm on a mission here,' said the 39-year-old Dutchman, who has a 50-50 record with Taylor in their meetings this year - two victories each and one Holsten Premier League draw.

'The dream final is Van Barneveld against Taylor on New Year's Day - everyone will be watching.'
