The death has occurred of well known Gaelic football manager and former Laois star Bobby Miller.
Miller died while watching his Arles Killeen team play The Rock in the Laois SFC at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise on Saturday evening.
Bobby was managing the Arles Killeen side that included county stars Beano McDonald and Donie Brennan when he became ill on the sideline shortly before half time.
Medical assistance was administered on the pitch and Bobby was removed to Portlaoise's Midland Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Bobby Miller was just 55-years-old and had a distinguished career as a player and manager.
He was on the Laois minor football team that won their third Leinster title in succession in 1967 and was defeated by Cork in the All-Ireland final that year.
His senior inter-county career spanned three decades and he partnered Kildare's Pat Mangan in the middle of the field on the Leinster team that won The Railway Cup in 1974.
Miller took up management and in 1987 trained Athy to win their first Kildare senior football title in 45 years and in the following years managed Leinster to win back-to-back Railway cup titles.
He then managed his native county Laois before he had his greatest success as a manager when he guided Carlow's Eire Og to the first of five Leinster club title victories in 1993 and on to two All-Ireland club final appearances.
Bobby is brother of Dick Miller, the current Chairman of Laois County Board, and is survived by his wife Carol, son Barry and daughters Grace, Anna and Alison.
The President of the GAA Mr Nickey Brennan, has expressed his sympathies and those of the Association to the family and friends of the late Bobby Miller who passed away at the weekend.
Mr Miller, a former inter-county footballer and manager, was highly respected within the GAA and the President said that his record with Laois, Carlow, Leinster and a succession of club sides, including the great Éire Óg team of the 1990’s, was testament to his abilities as a manager and the deep love he had for Gaelic Games.
