Bealin named as new Wexford manager
Tuesday, 8 November 2005 10:55Former Dublin midfielder Paul Bealin has been backed to bag some silverware for Wexford next season.
The 1995 All-Ireland winner was confirmed as the new Wexford senior footballer manager at last night's County Board meeting for what will be his first venture into inter-county management.
The 37-year-old Bealin, who guided Ballyboden St Enda's to their only Dublin SFC title in 1996 as player-manager, succeeds Pat Roe who stepped down after this year's championship.
In 2005, Roe went close to winning the Model County's first senior football title since their Leinster SFC success in 1945. Their hopes of National League glory were dashed by Armagh at the final hurdle in May, while Dublin came from behind to knock them out of the provincial championship, winning by 1-17 to 2-10 in June's semi-final.
Bealin's latest management role saw him lead Mullahoran to this year's Cavan final where they lost to Cavan Gaels. He beat his former Dublin team-mate Charlie Redmond and ex-Louth boss Paddy Clarke to secure the Model position.
