Damien Duff is out of the Republic of Ireland's crunch World Cup qualifying clash with Switzerland at Lansdowne Road on Wednesday.
The Chelsea winger limped out of yesterday's 1-0 victory over Cyprus in Nicosia with a knee injury just after an hour, resulting in a scan today that has revealed cartilage damage.
Manager Brian Kerr confirmed: "Damien had a scan this evening on the knee injury which forced him to retire from last night's match against Cyprus.
"The scan revealed knee cartilage damage which will certainly keep him out of Wednesday's game against Switzerland."
