Derry City will face UCD in the final of the 2005 League Cup competition after they beat the current holders, Longford, 2-1 at the Brandywell.
The home side will thank the alertness of their top scorer, Mark Farren, who netted both Derry goals in the 42nd and 68th minutes.
For Longford, it will be a night to forget, particularly after they reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the 71st minute before the goalscorer, Barry Ferguson, was sent off two minutes later.
But 10 man Longford were denied an 89th minute equaliser when Derry keeper, David Forde, pulled off a spectacular save to deny Stephen Paisley at the death.
It got worse for the Midlanders when substitute, Dessie Baker, was sent off after the match had ended for what appeared to be persistent dissent.
