Ireland started the Celtic Cup in Edinburgh on a winning note by defeating Wales 1-0.

The goal was scored by Suzanne Beaney in the 65th minute following a rebound after the first shot from Emma Stewart had come back off the post. Beaney also had a goal disallowed in the first half, while Irish Captain Caulfield had her penalty stroke saved .

Louisa Healy played her first game for Ireland in goal and was called on to make some fine saves, while Hannah Bowe was also introduced for her first cap. The game saw the return to midfield of Jill Orbinson following the elbow injury she picked up at the KT Cup in Korea.

Two more players out for the rest of the tournament are Jenny McDonough and Catriona Carey.  Both have sustained ankle injuries.
