Roddy Collins has sensationally walked out on Dublin City to take over as boss of fellow strugglers Shamrock Rovers.

Collins informed Vikings' chief executive Ronan Seery of his decision earlier this morning.

"I’m absolutely shocked and stunned by this turn of events," said Seery.

"We’re at a hugely critical time in the season and our manager walks out to join our biggest rivals in our battle to avoid relegation.

"I’m very disappointed at the actions of Shamrock Rovers, they knew exactly what they were doing."

Dermot Keely has been appointed to take charge for Vikings' remaining four games, starting at home to Drogheda tonight.

Collins appointment follows an upward curve in Rovers' fortunes off the field in the last week. Businessman Conor Clarkson has become a significant shareholder in the club after injecting over €9 million into the Hoops.
