Robbie Keane insists the Republic of Ireland's efforts against France must not go to waste when they face the minnows from the Faroe Islands on Wednesday.
Ireland produced arguably their most disciplined and organised display under manager Brian Kerr on Saturday when they held France to a goalless World Cup qualifying draw in Paris.
With five points from their opening three matches, along with France, Switzerland and Israel, Ireland now have the chance to head into the international winter break as Group Four leaders.
"Full credit to the lads because we worked our socks off and deserved the point. It was a great team performance," said Keane.
"We were happy with the draw, and although there is still a long way to go, it is vital we get the three points on Wednesday because the draw in Paris will mean nothing if we don't beat the Faroes."
Ireland could even have beaten France but for a costly miss from John O'Shea midway through the second half, side-footing wide an Andy Reid free-kick from eight yards when it appeared easier to hit the target.
Manchester United left-back O'Shea knows he should have done better, and in reflecting on the opportunity he said: "I thought I would go to the far post for once because myself and Kevin Kilbane had previously been trying to get across the keeper (Fabien Barthez)."
