Cork City's Liam Kearney has spoken of his delight at scoring for the Leesiders away to Malmo FF in the Intertoto Cup last night. Speaking to RTÉ radio's Pat McAuliffe, Kearney said: "It's a long time since an Irish team came to Sweden and got a result like that. We're all delighted and I think we thoroughly deserved it to be honest. There was a lot of good work put in by all the players. It was lovely to score. Neal Fenn put it on my foot and I did the rest. It was great."
The goal gave Cork a deserved 1-0 victory and helped them through to the second round on an aggregate scoreline of 4-1. Cork manager Pat Dolan said: "We've won both games and kept a clean sheet tonight. This is special."
Cork now face Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in Holland next Saturday with the return leg at Turner's Cross the following week.
