Down make winning trip to Big Apple

Nine points from Man of the Match Paul Branniff secured victory for Down at Gaelic Park in an entertaining encounter in New York.

Leading 0-13 to 1-03 at the interval the visitors never looked back. New York started brightly and Tipperary native Bonny Kennedy rifled home a great goal from a close-in free. However, once Braniff hit form there was no stopping the Mourne men.

Gareth Johnson hit the Down goal at the start of the second half and further points from Simon Wilson, Gerard Adare, Martin Coulter and Brendan McGourty sealed their victory.

Dave Simms and Vinny Norton hit three late points for New York but they arrived much too late as the match finished 1-19 to 1-09 in favour of Down.
