The eircom League yesterday met with representatives of the Irish Soccer Referees Society, eircom League Referees Panel, FAI Referees Department, Referees Assessors and the FAI, following recent incidents involving alleged assaults on referees by players and fans.
The eircom League confirmed that it does not condone any such incidents and is determined to eliminate unacceptable incidents involving match officials.
The League has written to all 22 League clubs in relation to these matters. The League has asked clubs to implement a number of safety and stewarding procedures at their home fixtures including closer pre-match liaison between their event controller and match officials.
