Down overturn Monaghan lead to win in Casement Park

Monaghan opened well in their match against Down in Casement Park but their wastefulness in front of goal proved their downfall as they lost the Ulster Football quarter-final 1-12 to 0-13.

The Monaghan start was bright with seven points in twenty minutes. Down rallied and three Liam Doyle points saw them cut the deficit to three as the half-time score was 0-09 to 0-06.

Down exploded into the second-half with a goal from corner forward Michael Walshe and a point from John Lavery putting them in the lead within two minutes. Monaghan were playing great football, but just couldn't finish. Down will now meet Fermanagh in the Ulster semi-final later this month.
