Fitzmaurice quits Sligo hurling post

Sligo hurling manager Paidi Fitzmaurice stepped down from his post last night in the wake of his side's defeat to Mayo in the Allianz Division 3 final at Castlebar. Fitzmaurice's resignation came after Michael Donnelan, Chairman of the Minor Board and County Board Youth Officer, sent a letter of complaint to the County Hurling Board.

Donnelan complained that with a total of nine minors on the senior panel the risk of injury to young players was too great. The Yeats men lost the decider to a more physical Mayo side on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-06.
