Fabien Barthez will not face charges over an incident in which a disabled fan was allegedly hit by a water bottle during a game against Leeds United at Elland Road. The Manchester United keeper was questioned by West Yorkshire Police officers following an incident at the game on September 14.
Police investigated claims that 31-year-old Barthez kicked or threw a plastic water bottle into the crowd, hitting 54-year-old Leeds fan Colin Richmond.
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said today: "A 31-year-old man was questioned in connection with an allegation of assault on a man on September 14 at Leeds United football ground. He was bailed pending further inquiries and a file was passed to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration.
"They have decided that no further action will be taken. Mr Richmond has previously stated he is planning to sue the goalkeeper for damages."
