FAI to pay Blackburn compensation for Duff

The FAI have announced that Blackburn Rovers will receive compensation for the payment of Damien Duff's wages after the attacking midfielder was injured on international duty, when Ireland took on Russia.

Duff will be on the sidelines for at least three weeks with a thigh problem that could mean a £100,000 payout by the FAI through their players' insurance scheme.

A statement from the FAI read "His club will be adequately compensated through our insurance. It seems that Graeme Souness is very upset and is calling for a review of procedure of payments to clubs when they are injured while with their countries. But the FAI believes it does everything possible to help the clubs in these cases."

Duff is doubtful for Ireland's next European Championship qualifying tie with Switzerland at Lansdowne Road on October 16 with his injury.
