Battling Louth go down to Westmeath

Westmeath 1-13 Louth 0-13

Westmeath have come through a close encounter with Louth at Navan to advance into the next round of the championship playoffs. The sides were level at six different times during this end-to-end game, as Louth produced a determined, battling performance. Louth's Seamus O'Hanlon kicked two fine points while Ger Heavin, Dessie Dolan and Fergal Wilson hit good scores for Westmeath, and the sides were level on 0-8 each at the interval.

Louth had a slender 0-10 to 0-9 lead 20 minutes into the second half, when Westmeath struck their crucial goal. The Louth defence failed to clear their lines and Martin Flanagan capitalised to punch the ball into the back of the net. That was the killer blow for Louth who could never quite catch Westmeath again.
