GAA vote against opening Croker

Delegates at the GAA Congress have voted against the opening of Croke Park to soccer and rugby by two votes at the Burlington Hotel today. A minimum of 178 votes was required to make up the two-thirds majority to pass the motion, but only 176 backed the controversial motion with 89 against.

Earlier, the GAA decided to allow club to sell the naming rights of their stadia.

Meanwhile, Meath took the Leinster U-21 Football Final at Newbridge, beating Dublin 10 points to 5. And Tyrone overcame Monaghan 2-13 to 1-10 in the Ulster U-21 football semi-finals.

Tyrone will play now Fermanagh in the decider, who beat Cavan 13 points to 10 today.
