GAA: GAC to examine Allianz brawl video

The Games Administration Committee of the GAA will hold a preliminary investigation of the brawl that marred Sunday's Allianz National Football League game between Sligo and Cavan at Markievicz Park. The GAC will also view a video of the game where a number of players became embroiled in a free for all.

The GAA will study video evidence of the League Division 1B game before deciding if any further action should be taken. Two players were sent off in injury time after a flare-up occurred on the sideline after the ball went out of play. Over a dozen players from both sides were involved in the melee, which lasted for several minutes and punches were thrown. The referee Eugene Murtagh decided that the main offenders were Cavan left-corner-back Rory Donohue and Sligo substitute Ken Killeen and both saw red.

A number of other players involved in the bust-up were booked. The Games Administration Committee is set to meet on Wednesday night where the referee's report and the video of the game will be considered. The GAA has said that it is "committed to applying its rules vigorously and expeditiously in any and all incidents (of indiscipline) that arise".
