Story Notes
During the 1960s, Ireland became a centre for film productions, especially for aviation related projects. Air Corps officers found themselves as flying extras in films such as "The Blue Max" (1965), "My Darling Lily" (1967), and "The Red Baron" (1970) with Baldonnel itself hosting several scenes.
"Flying for the Silver Screen" tells the story of the Irish Air Corps officers who found themselves as flying extras in these films.
‘Flying for the Silver Screen’ was first broadcast in May 1997.
