Story Notes
Woodbrook House, once the home of the Kirkwood family, was made famous in David Thomson’s book ‘Woodbrook’ published in 1974.
In 1932 David Thomson, an 18 year old student, took a summer job as tutor to Phoebe Kirkwood of Woodbrook House and the foundations were laid for a beautiful evocation of two loves – for Phoebe, and the house and its surroundings.
In this documenatary inspired by the book, we hear from the author himself, as well as those who remember people and events described in the book.
‘The Story of Woodbrook - David Thomson's Book’ was first broadcast in 1989.
Produced by Julian Vignoles.
Narrated by Conor Farrington.
