Kerry's teak tough centre-back Aidan O'Mahony is in a race against time to be fit to face Galway on this Saturday at Croke Park after picking up a leg injury in the opening half against Monaghan on Sunday last.

O'Mahony continued after treatment but on Monday, he felt very sore and was in some pain.

The defender was sent to Kerry General Hospital for an X-ray and received good news that there was nothing broken.

However, O'Mahony has bad bruising at the back of the leg between his calf and heel and he is now on crutches.

It appears that rest and intense treatment might just see O'Mahony make it, but much will depend on the next 48 hours, as team boss Pat O'Shea will be anxious that the Rathmore clubman will make it.

More than likely O'Mahony would be shadowing Galway captain Padraig Joyce and if he is not fit, Tommy Griffin would be a ready made replacement on the wing, with Kerry captain Tomás Ó Sé switching to play a central role.
