Icey grip claims Sedgefield card

This afternoon's meeting at Sedgefield has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

Clerk of the course Charlie Moore called a second inspection for 10am after an earlier look proved inconclusive.

However, Moore made a decision before the planned check as conditions had failed to improve. He said: 'We abandoned at 9.45am due to the frost, which has got further into the ground than we thought.

Huntingdon have called a precautionary inspection ahead of Wednesday's card for 7.30am due to the threat of overnight frost.

Clerk of the course Fiona Needham reports the track to be perfectly raceable at present but is concerned by the forecast ahead of Wednesday's meeting.

She said: 'The temperature only dropped to zero last night so we are absolutely fine at the moment. The forecast is for a more severe frost tonight and temperatures could drop as low as minus four at its worst.'

Catterick are also in the hands of the weathermen for Wednesday's meeting, with prospects of a cold night prompting clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson to call an 8am inspection.

'It really depends on the forecast,' said Sanderson about the  track's hopes of racing.

'We have been forecast anything from minus one degrees to minus three or four, and the lower it is obviously worsens our chances.'
