The International Atomic Energy Agency and its director general, Mohamed ElBaradei, have been awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

Irish interest had focused on Bono and Bob Geldof who were believed to have been nominated for their fight to eradicate poverty.

Earlier this week, the duo's odds had been reduced from 66-1 to 7-1 by some bookmakers after a Norwegian prize commentator placed them among his favourites.
