Award for French Olympic medallist

Olympic swimming champion Laure Manaudou has been named as France's sports personality of the year by L'Equipe newspaper.  

The 18-year-old from Villeurbanne won the 400 metres freestyle gold medal at Athens and added a silver in the 800 metres and bronze in the 100 metre backstroke. 

She was the first woman from France to win an Olympic gold medal.  

Manaudou was a clear winner of the award ahead of world auto rally champion Sebastien Loeb and Emilie Le Pennec who won the uneven bars gymnastics gold medal at the Athens Olympics.
