Arts Council voices concern over Abbey

The Arts Council has said it is deeply concerned at the current difficulties facing the Abbey Theatre.

The council has commissioned an independent review as part of its response to the Abbey's proposals for change.

In a statement following a meeting yesterday, the chairperson, Olive Braiden, said the council wished to support the Abbey through its present difficulties.

The review is to begin in October, once the Abbey's own internal working group has completed its deliberations.
