Nova Silver Medal Win at the PPI Awards 2011!

Bernard Clarke's Nova - RTÉ lyric fm special on Roger Doyle's Chalant won Silver in the New Irish Music/Musical Talent Programme at the awards ceremony in Kilkenny. The programme is also nominated for the 2011 Prix Europa Awards - see below for more information.

Nova programme in Top 5 winners in Prix Europa 2011

Nova made the Top 5 in the prestigious 2011 Prix Europa awards, for the programme built around Roger Doyle's Chalant.

Roger Doyle's Chalant delves into the memories of electro-acoustic pioneer Roger Doyle in an effort to fathom his most recent project Chalant. This draws on telephone answering messages left by family and friends from the late 1980s. In a work-in-progress, the composer has set these messages set to music.

Nova gets personal as Doyle brings us through a world of ghosts; and we talk music as we try to fuse recorded truth with sonic detail and perfection of form with fleeting experience. In a curious symmetry, Ireland was going through similar economic hardships then as it is now making the project and this programme all the more resonant.

The Nova Interview

Nova endeavours to catch up with as many new musicians as possible across a wide divide of approaches/styles/genres-you name it. Often what began in one area soon morphs into another and another and up to now such associative communing ends up on the edit room floor. Anyway, because we can't broadcast everything and because everybody seems to enjoy listening on their computer, phone, ipod or ipad we're now making our interviews downloadable.
