Netflix has announced today that subscribers will now be able to feed their binge-watching appetites even more easily with downloadable content.

From today, Netflix users will be able to download some of their favourite shows, documentaries or films to their mobile devices, so they can watch them anytime, anywhere.

This new service, which allows offline viewing of streamed videos, will be particularly welcomed by users who want to avoid expensive data-connection charges, or catch up with TV on a plane.

It is not known how much of Netflix's content will be available offline, with the streaming service saying it was in discussion with copyright owners and says it is "working with lots of partners globally to get downloading rights for the bulk of the content on our service".

Some of the shows which are currently available to download include Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown, while more will become available in the future.

The new feature is included in all Netflix subscriber plans with no extra cost and is available for phone and tablets on Android and iOS.
